Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Southern Governor, the Southern Governorate held a remote security forum marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Titled “Security and Awareness”, the forum witnessed the participation of Brigadier Isa Thamer Al Dosari, Deputy Southern Governor, and a number of senior officers and officials from the different security directorates in the Ministry of Interior.
HH Shaikh Khalifa hailed the directives of the General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa, Minister of Interior, to promote community security and partnership, though developing security programmes, awareness plans and initiatives, in cooperation with civil society institutions.
Within a speech delivered in the online forum, His Highness also commended the efforts exerted by the police directorates to combat drug trafficking, enhance security awareness and enforce required measures.
On his part, Colonel Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department, highlighted the Department's efforts in combatting drugs related crimes in a presentation, stressing on the Department's keenness to support joint cooperation with the Southern Governorate to defy this issue and organise awareness exhibitions and events.
Mr. Ali Ameeni, Director of Maan "Together" Programme Against Violence and Addiction, discussed with the attendees the achievements of the Programme, which has been circulated among 45 schools through awareness campaigns targeting combatting drugs abuse.
Mr. Ameeni also expressed his enthusiasm to continue the ongoing cooperation with the Southern Governorate, especially in the field of developing programmes and organising exhibitions that target all segments of the society and works to reinforce community safety and security.
Lieutenant Colonel Shaikh Salman bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Head of Riffa Police Station, also presented a brief on the security efforts to combat crime, particularly drugs abuse and selling cases. He praised the keen interest of HH the Southern Governor in combating all sorts of crime, and His Highness's endless support to security programmes and initiatives in the various areas within the governorate.
By the conclusion of the meeting, HH Shaikh Khalifa commended the cooperation between the Southern Governorate Police Directorate, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, and Maan Programme for combating violence and narcotics, and for their effective role in the field of promoting security awareness among the citizens and residents.
