Southern Governor Underlines Importance of Increasing Green Spaces in Future Housing Projects

The Southern Governorate organised a remote forum marking the World Environment Day, with the participation of several government and private bodies.

In the forum, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Southern Governor, praised the efforts exerted by the different parties, reflecting the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to follow up on renewable energy projects and initiatives in the Kingdom.

His Highness highlighted the biodiversity and housing projects characterising the Southern Governorate, stressing keenness on optimising the use of renewable sources of energy and expanding green spaces across the governorate.

HH the Southern Governorate also asserted in the forum that the Governorate is keen on cooperating with the public and private institutions to achieve community and environment responsibility in the governorate and to highlight its sustainable civic side.

For his part, Dr. Mohammed bin Daina, Chief Executive Officer of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), said that the current projects in the environmental field have important contributions that are in line with green and sustainable initiatives, which raise the level of environmental awareness among members of society.

Additionally, Eng. Asem Abdullatif, Director General Southern Municipality presented a plan to expand the green spaces, improve facilities and public parks, and revamp natural water springs, as important destinations in the governorate.

Dalal Fuad Al Baharna, Environment and Energy Specialist, highlighted the main sustainable energy projects for future use in the  Southern Governorate and the efforts devoted to encourage the renewable energy system in educational facilities and future projects.

The attendees expressed thanks and appreciation to HH Shaikh Khalifa for holding the virtual forum, which reflects joint cooperation and coordination in caring for sustainable initiatives, in the framework of adopting green projects and renewable energy initiatives, in line with future plans.
