Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, accompanied by His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Governor of the Southern Governorate, planted a tree this morning, following the approval of the Cabinet, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to designate the third week of October as National Tree Week annually.
This initiative aligns with Bahrain's afforestation plan, which aims to plant 3.6 million trees by 2035.
The minister affirmed the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to expanding green spaces across all facilities and security and service establishments. This commitment is part of broader projects to protect environmental resources and fulfil Bahrain’s environmental goals, including achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
He noted that the ministry is progressing with programmes and initiatives to meet the objectives of this initiative, particularly in raising environmental awareness within the community, promoting eco-friendly practices, and expanding green spaces.
