Southern Governorate Conducts Series of Field Visits to Labour Camps

A joint team from the Southern Governorate, the General Directorate of Civil Defence, Southern Governorate Police Directorate, Southern Area Municipality and the Electricity and Water Authority, conducted a series of field visits to rectify the situations at a number of labour accommodations. 

The team listed  691  labour camps, in which 388 owners of these accommodations were notified to correct the violations and  215 joint houses are in the process of correcting the violations. Additionally, the electricity was disconnected from 12 buildings over safety violations.

The visits came within the efforts of the Southern Governorate in strengthening the precautionary measures against coronavirus and as per the directives of His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Southern Governor, to follow up on reducing the numbers of expatriate labourers in residential areas.

In this context, Eng. Khaled Abdullatif Haji, Director of Engineering Services and Investment at the Governorate, confirmed that the Governorate is continuing its field visits to tackle and correct violations at labour camps, promote the general safety and ensure that precautions and preventive measures are undertaken inside these residences.

For their part, the joint team commended the prominent role played by HH the Southern Governor  in taking all precautionary measures in cooperation and coordination with various security and concerned authorities to enhance security and safety in the different areas within the governorate.
