His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Southern Governor has chaired the 8th coordination meeting in the year 2020 which was held through video call in the presence His Excellency Brigadier Isa Thamer Abdulla Al Dossari, Deputy Southern Governor as well as representatives from several government agencies.

At the beginning of the meeting, HH the Southern Governor welcomed the attendees, praising the efforts that they are producing to combat the Coronavirus “Covid-19”, affirming the importance of the Coordination Committee’s role to meet the needs and the requirements of the Governorate’s citizens.

Moreover, HH the Southern Governor discussed plans and strategies that have been designed ahead of the wet season, stressing the need of finding radical solutions to prevent ponding of rainwater in certain areas as well as vital places by upgrading sewage networks.

During the meeting too, HH Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa was briefed through a presentation made by the Governorate in cooperation with Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning on the preparations and procedures linked to rain drainage and other solutions that will be adopted for this purpose such as providing water pumps and tanks across the Government to tackle this issue.

He also reviewed the efforts being exerted by the Municipality of the Southern Region and the most important results of their field visits to determine the needs of the citizens, market users and vendors, including the construction of a Majlis in East Riffa market and developing the central market in Riffa.

Moreover, he was informed of the progress of establishing a new library in East Riffa following the Cabinet’s decision, underlining the importance to follow-up with the Ministry of Education to ensure this project will see the light as per the plans designed beforehand.

In another context, HH the Governor reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Housing in following up on the maintenance requests placed by the residents of Alhunayniyah housing project. Besides, he was updated on the efforts of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism to inspect industrial areas to ascertain that workers are committing to safety requirements.

At the closing of the meeting, HH the Southern Governor hailed the security officers’ efforts towards achieving community partnership and cooperating with the Governorate in launching meaningful initiatives.
