Her Highness Shaikha Mariam bint Salman Al Khalifa patronised the inauguration ceremony of the Southern Governorate's initiative titled: "Southern Governorate … Glory and History" at Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Hall at the University of Bahrain, in the presence of several ministers, senior officials, VIPs and dignitaries from the southern governorate.
During the ceremony, HH Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Southern Governor, has announced the allocation of the third day of May every year as the "the Southern Governorate Heritage Day" in recognition and respect for the status of this prestigious governorate, to be an occasion to celebrate with the people of the governorate with its heritage through holding a number of events and activities involved in this aspect.
